Serhii Magera

Bass

Sergii Magera was born in Lviv region, Ukraine. In 1997, he graduated from the Mykola Lysenko Lviv State Music Academy. From 1997 to 1998, he was a soloist at the Solomiya Krushelnytska Lviv National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet. Since 1998, he has been the main soloist of the National Opera of Ukraine in Kyiv.

From 1996 to 2003, he won the prizes at numerous international competitions, including the International Vocal Competition IBLA International Foundation (Ragusa, Italy, 1996); the 1st International Ivan Patorzhynskyy Competition (Luhansk, Ukraine, 1997), the 5th International Singing Competition (Budapest, Hungary, 2000), the International Maria Callas Grand Prix (Athens, Greece, 2001), “Citta di Alcamo” (Alcamo, Italy, 2002), the Montserrat Caballé Principality of Andorra (2002), the International Vocal Competition of Bilbao, Spain (2002), and the 5th Maria Kraja International competition of vocalists (Tirana, Albania, 2003).

Sergii has performed on the stages of the Bolshoi Theater of Russia, the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest, The Gran Teatre deI Liceu in Barcelona, Toulon Opera House, Tokyo City Opera, the Tokyo ‘Bunka Kajkan’ concert hall, the St Petersburg and Moscow Philharmonics, the Congress Hall of Zaragoza in Spain. He also repeatedly took part in such festivals as “Irina Arkhipova presents" and the Chaliapin Festival in Kazan (Russia). From 2014 to 2016, he participated in the production of the Munich Gärtnerplatztheater in Verdi's “Aida” as Ramfis. In June - July 2017, he was invited to the same Theatre on role of Commendatore in the new production of Mozart’s “Don Giovanni”.

His repertoire also includes the roles from such operas as “Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District” by D.Shostakovich, "Mazepa", "Iolanta", "Eugene Onegin" by P.Tchaikovsky; "Boris Godunov", "Sorochinsky Fair" by M.Mussorgsky, “Aleko” by S.Rachmaninoff, “The Tsar's Bride” by N. Rimsky-Korsakov, “The Love for Three Oranges” by S.Prokofiev, “La Gioconda” by A.Ponchielli, “Turandot”, “La Boheme” by G.Puccini, “Norma” by V.Bellini, “Lucia di Lammermoor” by G.Donizetti, “Romeo et Juliette” by Ch.Gounod, “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” by G.Rossini, “Rigoletto”, “Macbeth”, “Il Trovatore”, “Aida”, “Don Carlo”, ”Nabucco” by G.Verdi, “Don Giovanni” by W.A.Mozart, bass solo in Requiem by W.A. Mozart, and Messa da Requiem by G.Verdi.
